Being a part of a Fashion School has many benefits. One major benefit is being aware of the cultural backdrop of your own generation and also being aware of the popular movements of the previous generations. WLCI Fashion School takes a look at the “Woodstock Festival” that changed the 70’s generation and catapulted the ‘free-thinking’ era and the ‘Flower-Generation’ globally.
Woodstock was a musical festival held at Catskill, near the town of Bethel from August 15th to 18th, 1969 in Sullivan County in the US. The festival was aimed at promoting 3 days of peace and music.
The festival has also been pinpointed as the harbinger of the counter-culture generation all over Europe, US and Asia. The festival saw the footfall of novice artists like Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Ravi Shanker, Santana, Nash and Young, Joan Baez and others, who later went on to become world renowned artists in their own right.
Woodstock Festival changed the face of music and had massive impact on the youth of those times and its subsequent generations.
The ideas and ideals of Woodstock continue to permeate our society even today. The values for respect and tolerance inspired by the event have become more common since it took place. Today, our society is more tolerant of all types of religious and cultural beliefs. The concept of “Live and let Live” was permeated by this event. WLCI Fashion School salutes this historical festival and its outcome, which pervaded global changes in our outlook, thought and attitude.
