Talking smart is easy but convincing people while being in a lot of pressure yourself could be hard. But if you are an expert at all three, what are you waiting for? You could rock it as a public relations (PR) professional. Acting as middlemen for companies, institutions and celebrities or public figures, PR executives are the ones behind all the publicity the company or celebrities bask in. They are responsible for building and maintaining a positive communication with the public. However, it also means should a celebrity do something outrageous, as a PR person the onus would be on you to do the damage control. A PR exec is a people’s person in the truest sense of the word.
While an advertising exec also promotes and develops a brand or a product thereby ensuring its success, as a PR person you will have to see that it gets its due recognition in the media. Your presence will render the product or the person you are handling more credibility.
A few skills that would find you in good stead in this job are:
• An ability to absorb information
• Being creative and reliable to give confidence to your clients
• Strong hold over language
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Good organizing skills
• Must be tech savvy.
While anyone can enter this field, a media course in PR would prepare you best to take on the challenges of a PR job. WLCI School of Media offers one of the most exciting courses.
